How much does a kitchen renovation cost?
Honestly, it ranges. A refresh — new counters, cabinet fronts, lighting — usually starts around $40,000. A full gut-and-rebuild with custom cabinetry, a moved wall, and new flooring is often $80,000–$150,000, sometimes more. The real reason I won't throw out a number over the phone is that two homeowners can walk me into the same kitchen and want completely different projects. I'd rather take an hour at your kitchen table than guess.
How much does a bathroom renovation cost?
A main-bath refresh usually starts around $15,000–$20,000. A full ensuite rebuild with custom tile, glass, a freestanding tub and proper waterproofing typically runs $25,000–$45,000, sometimes more depending on what's behind the walls. I'll know within a week of seeing yours what it's actually going to be.
How much should I budget for a basement suite or in-law suite?
A simpler basement suite usually starts around $80,000–$100,000 if the bones are already there. Add a separate entrance, a full second kitchen, soundproofing for the floor above and proper egress windows, and you're usually closer to $120,000–$160,000. For most families that's a fraction of what a second mortgage somewhere else would cost — and it keeps everyone close.
Why won't you give me a quote over the phone?
Because I don't know enough about you, your house, or your life inside it to give you a real number yet. The quote is the last thing we figure out together, not the first. I'd rather take an hour at your kitchen table and send you an honest scope and price a week later than guess at a number now that you'd be disappointed by halfway through the project.
How long does a typical kitchen or bathroom renovation take?
Once we start, kitchens usually run 4–8 weeks, depending on cabinet lead times and how much we're touching behind the walls. Bathrooms are typically 2–4 weeks. The full timeline including design, ordering, and getting on our schedule is usually a few months — we plan it together so the build lands when it makes sense for your family.
Do you handle permits, or is that on me?
I handle them. Anything that needs a permit — structural changes, suites, electrical, plumbing — is on me. I know the people at the City of Abbotsford and the surrounding municipalities, and that helps things move. You won't need to chase paperwork.
Who actually does the work — Jonathan, or a crew?
I run every project personally — the first conversation, every walkthrough, the punch list at the end. I've got a couple of guys on my crew who work alongside me, and we bring in trusted electricians, plumbers, tile-setters and finishers when their part of the job comes up. You'll always be talking to me, not a project manager you've never met.
Do I need to move out during the renovation?
Usually you can stay, and most people do — we work around you. I'll be straight with you, though: staying put often costs a little more, because keeping the space liveable through a renovation takes extra work on our end. Moving out has its own costs too. We'll weigh the trade-off together on the walkthrough and figure out what makes sense for your project and your budget.
Are you licensed and insured?
Connect Contracting carries both liability insurance and WCB coverage in BC — so your home and everyone on the job site is protected. BC doesn't require a builder's licence for residential renovation work, so I don't carry one, but every job is done to current BC Building Code and we pull every permit it needs.
What's the smallest project you'll take on?
There's no fixed minimum. A single bathroom, a small deck, a kitchen refresh — all good. If you're not sure whether your project is too small to bother me with, just call. The conversation costs nothing.
